If you enter the wrong code too many times, the device will display a message that the code has been blocked. If you don’t remember the code, you’ll need to erase your iPhone, which will delete the data and settings, including the code.

Follow these steps to restore an iPad or iPhone from recovery mode:

  • Charging the device to at least 20 percent.
  • Hold the power button until Slide To Power Off appears on the screen. Swipe to turn off.
  • Open iTunes on a Mac or PC.
  • Press and hold the volume down button (on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus) or the Home button (on all other iOS devices).
  • After holding down the button, connect the device to a Mac or PC.

Note that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus do not have hardware home buttons – these are haptric software-based buttons that do nothing when the device is turned off – so you must use the volume down button instead of the home button. 

Completed the process, the device should turn on in recovery mode. The screen should display a blue iTunes logo and a white zip cable. ITunes should display a message stating that iTunes has detected the iPad in recovery mode. You must restore it before you can use it with iTunes.

Click OK and then restore and update.

Click Restore iPad and remove the software with the program and follow the instructions below:

Restore iPad or iPhone 

  • Enter the Apple ID and password used to configure the device.
  • Click Continue.
  • Select Restore from this backup. Restore the device to an earlier time. You can also configure it as a new model by selecting Set as new iPad / iPhone.
  • Click Continue.
  • Your device will start and start as Before, but without a password. You may be prompted to enter your Apple ID, depending on the version of iOS you are using.

If you set an access code and want to delete it completely, after accessing your iOS device, just go to Settings > Touch ID and password, and then tap the “Enable Passcode” button.
